Summit Hall
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood

Cresting a brutal, windswept peak in the southeastern Sumber Hills, you behold an architectural defiance of nature itself: Summit Hall is carved directly into the sheer granite face of the mountain. Far from a conventional castle, the structure resembles an ancient, cliffside monastery, its tiers of heavy, dark-tiled pagoda roofs shrugging off the perpetually falling snow. The walls are a stark white stone that contrast sharply with the brooding grey rock face, standing as a silent, formidable fortress of the Knights of Samular.

The air here is thin and carries the chill of high altitude, intensifying the aura of austere discipline that pervades the hall. Within the deep, shadowed courtyards, the sounds of martial practice are muted by the snowfall, yet ever-present. Every aspect of the knights' existence, overseen by the stern Lady Ushien Stormbanner, is dedicated to the worship of Tyr, the god of justice.

The residents move with a silent, purposeful efficiency, their highly polished armor catching the weak mountain light—a stark contrast to the wild chaos of the valley below. To the northeast, integrated into the cliffside, sits a solitary, round tower, its thick walls unbroken by windows. This is the fabled Tower of Renwick. Snow piles against its base, yet its ancient wards maintain a perpetual, unsettling silence around the structure. The knights respect this boundary fiercely, believing the wizard's powerful magic lies dormant within, sealed since the bloody conclusion of the Second Troll War that defined their order’s founding.

Summit Hall serves as the ultimate sanctuary in the hostile Dessarin Valley. The knights grow hardy mountain crops and raise resilient livestock within the sheltered lower grounds, providing essential respite for the few travelers brave enough to navigate the treacherous ascent. Their hospitality is rigid, governed by the stringent tenets of the Order of the Gauntlet, demanding order and piety from all who seek their shelter.

As twilight deepens the shadows of the peaks, the monastery becomes a fortress of light against the encroaching darkness. Chanting from the austere chapel echoes through the stone halls—a spiritual battle hymn meant to hold fast against the whispers of elemental cults stirring in the deeper vales. The structure seems less built and more grown from the rock itself, a beacon of resolute conviction in a land that favors chaos and corruption.

Standing on the high ramparts, the contrast of the Hall’s ordered existence against the untamed wilderness is stark. The knights maintain this small bastion of justice, but the moment you step beyond their narrow mountain path, you are in the realm of giants, monsters, and the Tower of Zenopus. The gates of Summit Hall are your safe harbor, but the knights make clear the path of justice must be walked alone beyond their walls.

Dessarin Hills
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood
The Dessarin Hills are a grouping of tall, rugged hills in the western stretch of the Savage Frontier. The River Dessarin winds its way through the hills, which dominates the landscape on either side. The hills lay south of the city of Yartar, north of the Sumber Hills, east of the North Sword Foothills & Starmetal Hills and it contains few settlements. The Evermoor lies north of the hills. The Highwood is to the east, separated by wild open plains sought as hunting grounds for exotic creatures. The navigacable Surbrin River flows through the hills from the Evermoor until it meets the Dessarin River.

A number of ancient dwarven ruins, "some of which have been lost to time" dot the landscape of the hills. Jundar's Hill is a prominent landmark at the northern end of these hills, west of the Dessarin River. In addition to the Uthgardt barbarians that claim the hills as their land, they are home to savage humanoids, such as orcs and ogres. Beyond these are even more dangerous creatures, namely hill giants and manticores.

Vale of Dancing Waters
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood

Hidden in a remote, snow-laden cleft of the western Sumber Hills, the Vale of Dancing Waters reveals itself only to those who know the secret paths. Carved into the sheer face of the mountain, the structures defy easy access, presenting a series of tiered white-stone walls and dark, multi-layered roofs designed to shrug off the perpetual alpine snows. This secluded complex, known in Dwarvish as Tyn'rrin Wurlur, is a place of profound solitude and sacred reverence. The air is still, the silence broken only by the soft descent of snowflakes and the distant, melodic chimes of the valley’s natural, blessed springs.

Within this hallowed sanctuary lies the Shrine of the Tender Oath, a place of pilgrimage dedicated to Sharindlar, the dwarven goddess of love and healing. The vale is famous for its abundant natural pools and crystal-clear fountains, the "dancing waters" that lend the location its name. These waters are rumored among dwarven travelers to possess potent healing properties, capable of mending both physical wounds and spiritual ailments. The atmosphere is one of serene contemplation, a rare pocket of peace in the otherwise brutal wilderness of the Dessarin Valley, jealously guarded by the few dwarven wardens who protect its existence from the outside world.

The River Dessarin
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood
The River Dessarin is a major river that flows through the Savage Frontier in Northwest Faerûn. This river is the main route for trade and commerce of this region. It is cold and deep, flowing from the Dancing Falls at the base of the Lost Peaks to the Sea of Swords just south of Waterdeep.

The waters of the Dessarin are home to the silver shalass, a fish that is considered a delicacy all across the North. The Dessarin has three primary bridges: Zundbridge, south of Waterdeep; the Stone Bridge, farther north and east of Red Larch; and Ironford. It also has a ford, usable at certain times of the year—the Dead Horse Ford east of Yartar. The Dessarin claims the River Surbrin, the River Rauvin, and the Laughingflow as its tributaries, also claiming many smaller rivers and streams flowing from a multitude of places, such as Lurkwood and the Evermoors to the north, and the High Forest to the east.

The High Forest
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood

The High Forest, also known as the Great Everwood, is a vast, ancient woodland in Northwest Faerûn, a remnant of a distant era when elves, giants, and dragons ruled a continent covered in green. It is one of the largest forests on Toril, bordered by the Nether Mountains to the north and the High Moor to the south. The air within its bounds is thick with the scent of old growth and carries an ever-present, wild feeling of being watched, an atmosphere thick with untapped magic and history.

The forest is a dangerous, largely unexplored wilderness, a place of constant competition among many forces. The most prominent powers are the powerful treants led by the ancient Turlang, and growing numbers of wood elves who seek to reestablish the lost kingdom of Eaerlann.

They contend with numerous orc and gnoll tribes that flow in from the Spine of the World, as well as an alliance of demon-spawned fey'ri elves from the notorious ruins of Hellgate Keep.

The geography of the High Forest is rugged, featuring frequent changes in elevation, coursing rivers, and a dense, often impenetrable canopy. The majestic Star Mounts, some of the highest peaks in Faerûn, rise from the very center of the forest, their snow-capped summits often visible from miles away. These mountains are the source of several vital rivers, including the Unicorn Run, known for its waterfalls and fey communities, and the Heartblood River.

Among its many notable locations is the fabled Grandfather Tree, a monumental, magically protected oak held sacred by the Uthgardt barbarians and druids alike. The eastern region contains the unsettling Dire Wood, a forest-within-a-forest ringed by pale and petrified trees, saturated with residual arcane energy from the fall of the Netherese archwizard Karsus. Strange phenomena and two liches named Wulgreth are said to originate from this corrupted locale.

The forest floor is littered with the ruins of three successive elven civilizations, their delicate spires and ancient temples now swallowed by the relentless wilderness. These ruins, such as those of the sun elf realm of Siluvanede, offer fantastic opportunities for adventurers seeking ancient artifacts or forbidden knowledge. Passageways like the Endless Caverns and Drygully Tunnel connect the forest depths to the dangerous Underdark, adding drow, dragons, and fire giants to the list of potential threats.

Few humans venture deep into the woods; those who do are typically rangers, druids, or members of the Harpers, used to a self-sufficient existence in an environment where they are rarely welcome. The High Forest is a land governed not by human laws or trade caravans, but by ancient magic, primal nature deities like Mielikki and Eldath, and a brutal, beautiful balance of competing forces.

Sword Mountains
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood

The Sword Mountains are a range of peaks located on the Sword Coast North. With an arc-like shape, the mountains are located northwest of Waterdeep and east of the Mere of Dead Men. Their western slopes lead to the Trackless Sea in rolling foothills. The mountains themselves are steep and craggy, with snow-capped peaks. Gold and platinum have been found in the foothills of the Sword Mountains.

After Karsus's Folly in -399 DR, the leaders of the realm of Illefarn asked the dragon Nolalothcaragascint for aid in defeating the King of Shadows, but the dragon was defeated. The force of his body striking the ground created a massive valley within the Sword Mountains. The leaders of Illefarn transformed the dragon's heart into a crystalline floating structure reminiscent of a Phylactery, where the dragon's soul remained for centuries within the fertile valley.

The mountains were home to orcs and trolls, but after the orcs were united by Wund and the Brotherhood of the Scarlet Scourge in the Year of the Red Rain, 927 DR, the orcs drove the trolls out. This was a contributing factor to the Trollwars. Uruth Ukrypt conquered the dwarven citadel of Melairrin within Mount Sar that same year.

Uruth Ukrypt's orc horde came out of the mountains to attack Waterdeep in the Year of the Sky Riders, 936 DR, but they were defeated and forced to retreat. They hatched another plan to attack in the Year of the Cold Claws, 940 DR, but this plan was ruined by the gold dragon Palarandusk.

Phandelver's Pact was formed circa the 10th century DR by dwarf and gnome clans joined by human spellcasters to bind the magical energies of Wave Echo Cave into a powerful forge capable of producing magical items, known as the Forge of Spells. However, in the Year of the Empty Hourglass, 951 DR, Uruth Ukrypt destroyed the nearby town of Phandalin and sacked Wave Echo Cave, and the location of the Forge was considered lost to history.

In the Year of the Dracorage, 1018 DR, the ancient dragons Claugiyliamatar and Shammagar attacked Uruth Ukrypt's food and treasure supplies. Shammagar drove the orcs from Melairren, claiming the stronghold as his new lair.

Due to a raid on Ukrypt's crypt by a human adventuring company called the Dawnbringer Company in the Year of Lathander's Light, 1024 DR, the orcs of the Brotherhood of the Scarlet Scourge formed a horde called the Broken Bone with the intent of destroying Waterdeep. Their plans were once again ruined by a dragon; this time Lhammaruntosz. Still determined to exact their revenge, the orcs formed another horde, calling it the Black Claw, and in the Year of Crimson Magics, 1026 DR they came from the mountains to attack Waterdeep. This attack proved unsuccessful and they were defeated, causing the orcs to lose their unity and plunge into a period of tribal conflict.

Chapel
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval

The chapel was built with funds from Ghaliver Longstocking in honor of the aid rendered to the settlement by the locals in the battle against marauding orcs some years ago. Father Lomas, who oversees the chapel in the name of Lathander―god of life and light, can usually be found in the chapel sweeping the floor or performing some other household cleaning.

Amberfoot Patisserie Shoppe
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood

The Amberfoot Patisserie Shoppe is the bakery and home of Tobin Amberfoot, a young, brown haired Halfling who opened this Patisserie Shoppe some two years ago after traveling from Waterdeep. Tobin left Waterdeep to find a smaller community to tend to with his baked goods.

He wanted to have a more personal feel with his customers and in a big city like Waterdeep, this was impossible to do. When seen working in his shoppe, he will be seen carrying several of his various cookbooks, pouring over new recipes. This patisserie shoppe is all Tobin has so he puts fourth a serious effort to make his customers happy. His wife helps with the shop as well, Jaila Amberfoot is very dedicated to her loving husband. They are well liked in the community of Westbridge but are worried about the recent influx of ruffians that have begun harrassing the settlement.

The shop stands next to Merrygold's Table which gives this establishment a lot of business. The building is a small bakery, and surprisingly well stocked for a settlement of this small size, with the front of the shop facing the main street that goes through the center of the settlement. It has a small cellar for storing supplies, with the ground floor given over to the business and upper floor used as Tobin's home.

The ground floor has two main sections. The front of the building is the store and is open to the public. Here, a counter ringed the room with large cabinets displaying the day's wares; there is also a bread bin. A corridor leads to the back of the building. The cellar of the building is used for storage, holding ingredients. At the rear was the kitchen and preparation area, with a large oven, cooling racks, and work bench. He has his own personal oven that was sent to Westbridge, to his new shop . . . he is rather fond of that particular oven, and he believes his oven is just as good as this so called "magical" oven in the city of Waterdeep.

The bakery has a small dining room at the front of the shop. Upstairs is a small living area, furnished with two couches, rug, and bookcase with a small bedroon in the back. Off of it is a bathroom with bathtub. The shop as a whole is very cosy and confortable and it very popular with the residents of Westbridge. At times the shop has been known to have customers from outside Westbridge . . . the Patisserie Shoppe is known throughout the region.

Thistlebranch Tonics
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood
The shop is overflowing with hanging bundles of drying herbs, jars of colourful powders, and a sweet, earthy scent. The store stocks a mix of mundane remedies, mild potions, and occasional rare finds for adventurers. Bryony refuses to sell poison, but she does keep a few “vermin deterrents” for those who insist.

Bryony Thistlebranch has an uncanny knack for finding the right remedy for any ailment, whether it be a poultice for an aching back, a soothing tea for troubled sleep, or a pungent concoction that “puts a bounce back in the step”.

Bryony occasionally stocks rarer potions, but they require special requests. She may also be willing to buy rare herbs, alchemical ingredients, or monster parts for a fair price.

Bryony Thistlebranch is a 72 year old halfling and the owner of Thistlebranch Tonics, an herbalist shop. Bryony is a sprightly, silver-haired halfling woman with a sun-kissed complexion and bright green eyes that twinkle with knowing mischief—a lifelong forager of herbs, fungi, and flowers. Bryony grew up roaming the edges of the Dim Forest, learning the secrets of plants from her grandmother, who always said, “The land tells you what you need—if you’ve got the ears to listen”. Bryony is well loved in Westbridge for her warm demeanour and sharp wit.

Market
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood
Westbridge’s farmers market is a modest affair. The scent of fresh earth and ripe produce drifts in the air as farmers from the surrounding fields proudly display their harvest. Wooden crates overflow with vibrant vegetables. A few stalls sell jars of honey, freshly churned butter, and wheels of creamy cheese, while others showcase bundles of culinary and medicinal herbs hanging to dry.

There is a hum of conversation with the occasional voice of a vendor calling out their best deal. A few farmers grumble about lost livestock and restless nights, their voices heavy with worry about raids and prowling threats from the forest’s edge.

Merrygold's Table
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood

A cosy restaurant specialising in rustic farmstead meals, run by a warm, cheerful halfling named Luth Merrygold. The restaurant has a reputation for hospitality, and Luth refuses to let anyone leave her establishment hungry— whether they can pay or not.

The diversity of the restaurant’s clientele is as varied as the restaurant’s repertoire. Weary travellers needing comfort, a local farmer celebrating a bountiful harvest, or an adventurer returning from danger will all be served a meal worth remembering.

While Luth enjoys a good story from passing adventurers, he doesn’t have much tolerance for troublemakers, often settling disputes with nothing more than a sharp look and an even sharper carving knife.

Merrygold's Table is a popular inn of Westbridge, frequented by Halflings from the surrounding area as well as the tall folk. While the precise date of the inn's construction is untold, during the early days of Westbridge it was already a popular location. The Inn's location in the region allowed it to import ales from across the region. Local wine brewers also sell wines and ales to the inn.

The owner, Luth Merrygold is a plump and cheerful halfling with curly auburn hair, laugh lines around her deep brown eyes, and an ever-present apron that smells of butter, herbs, and fresh-baked bread. She wears a simple tunic with rolled-up sleeves and well-worn boots. Her voice carries the warmth of a hearth fire on a cold evening.

Always warm and welcoming, treating everyone like family. She often calls her regulars “love” or “dearie” and frequently spends time sharing the latest gossip or stories that travellers of the Long Road have shared. She is focused on creating perfection in the kitchen and fiercely protective of her recipes and secret foraging spots.

Growing up in the eastern foothills, her siblings took to the fields, and Luth took to the kitchen. She learned early that a well-cooked meal could ease tension, mend friendships, and turn a house into a home. She settled in Westbridge and opened Merrygold’s Table, a cosy restaurant specialising in hearty, rustic farmstead meals.

The upstairs rooms are very well kept up, twelve in total, half hobbit sized and half human sized. Each room has a round window looking out, the beds are soft with multple feather quilts resting on them. Each room has multple rugs, a table and chair with a foot locker at the foot of the bed. This inn opens at the break of dawn and closes well after the sun has gone down. The food and drink are famously known far and wide around the lands.

Tenements
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood
This large tenement structure features apartments for the town residents who do not own farms or who work in the businesses within the settlement who do not have a permanent residence. Several families also live in the homes on the east side of Westbridge. Most of the residents who live outside the walls are farmers and crafters who bring their wares to the Market Square to sell or trade.

The tenements belongs to the Westbridge government, they are not independently owned and operated by any individual. The weekly rent starting at 10sp/week is sent to the office of Lord Warden Ghaliver Longstocking and is then used to maintain structures within Westbridge, pay the local guards and other things that keep this settlement flourishing. Rent is mostly dependent on what profession the person(s) is/are.

People that have higher incomes will be rented to for an elevated rent fee (in other words, adventurers will be able to pay a more since they are usually "well off"). It does however have an individual that administers the weekly funds, a kindly woman by the name of Marita Olven. She runs a nearby office during the day that handles all business for the tenements.
