Summit Hall
The Time of Troubles & Era of Upheaval
Inspired By Ed Greenwood

Cresting a brutal, windswept peak in the southeastern Sumber Hills, you behold an architectural defiance of nature itself: Summit Hall is carved directly into the sheer granite face of the mountain. Far from a conventional castle, the structure resembles an ancient, cliffside monastery, its tiers of heavy, dark-tiled pagoda roofs shrugging off the perpetually falling snow. The walls are a stark white stone that contrast sharply with the brooding grey rock face, standing as a silent, formidable fortress of the Knights of Samular.

The air here is thin and carries the chill of high altitude, intensifying the aura of austere discipline that pervades the hall. Within the deep, shadowed courtyards, the sounds of martial practice are muted by the snowfall, yet ever-present. Every aspect of the knights' existence, overseen by the stern Lady Ushien Stormbanner, is dedicated to the worship of Tyr, the god of justice.

The residents move with a silent, purposeful efficiency, their highly polished armor catching the weak mountain light—a stark contrast to the wild chaos of the valley below. To the northeast, integrated into the cliffside, sits a solitary, round tower, its thick walls unbroken by windows. This is the fabled Tower of Renwick. Snow piles against its base, yet its ancient wards maintain a perpetual, unsettling silence around the structure. The knights respect this boundary fiercely, believing the wizard's powerful magic lies dormant within, sealed since the bloody conclusion of the Second Troll War that defined their order’s founding.

Summit Hall serves as the ultimate sanctuary in the hostile Dessarin Valley. The knights grow hardy mountain crops and raise resilient livestock within the sheltered lower grounds, providing essential respite for the few travelers brave enough to navigate the treacherous ascent. Their hospitality is rigid, governed by the stringent tenets of the Order of the Gauntlet, demanding order and piety from all who seek their shelter.

As twilight deepens the shadows of the peaks, the monastery becomes a fortress of light against the encroaching darkness. Chanting from the austere chapel echoes through the stone halls—a spiritual battle hymn meant to hold fast against the whispers of elemental cults stirring in the deeper vales. The structure seems less built and more grown from the rock itself, a beacon of resolute conviction in a land that favors chaos and corruption.

Standing on the high ramparts, the contrast of the Hall’s ordered existence against the untamed wilderness is stark. The knights maintain this small bastion of justice, but the moment you step beyond their narrow mountain path, you are in the realm of giants, monsters, and the Tower of Zenopus. The gates of Summit Hall are your safe harbor, but the knights make clear the path of justice must be walked alone beyond their walls.
